Next year, Apple is set to elevate Siri, the voice assistant built into the iPhone, by layering in advances from modern artificial intelligence. An industry insider shared details on his page on X, formerly known as Twitter, under the handle revegnus.
According to that source, the enhanced AI features for Siri will initially arrive on the iPhone 16 and on subsequent devices that Apple unveils in the near future. The anticipated reveal for Wise Siri is expected at WWDC 2024, scheduled for the early summer window next year.
Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman has also reported Apple’s ambition to weave AI technologies into iOS 18 and iPadOS 18. If true, these OS updates would mark a major shift for Siri, pushing its capabilities toward the level of sophisticated neural network chat bots such as ChatGPT. The outcome would be a more capable Siri that can understand user queries more deeply, sustain natural conversation, and deliver more precise answers.
Realizing this vision requires solving technical tradeoffs about where data is processed — on the device, in the cloud, or in a hybrid setup.
