Apple A16 benchmarks surface, hinting at Android performance gaps

Apple A16 benchmarks spark debate over Android pace-setters

Well-known insider Ice Universe has shared testing results for the latest Apple A16 processor on Geekbench, noting that the numbers appear exceptionally high for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon line. The details were relayed by iXBT, adding a cautious nod to the source of the leak.

On social media, Ice Universe described the multi-core performance as extraordinary, suggesting Qualcomm should step back and reassess its position. The author’s tweet painted a stark picture of the gap between Apple’s newest chip and competing Android solutions, highlighting the scale of the difference in practical terms.

According to the blogger, the A16 scored 1,887 in single-core tests and 5,455 in multi-core tests. By comparison, last year’s A15 Bionic posted 1,740 and 4,600 points, while Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 reached 1,190 and 3,455 points, respectively, in the same benchmarks.

The Apple A16 processor was unveiled on September 7 alongside the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. In several markets, the devices began shipping on September 13, bringing the latest Apple silicon to a broad audience.

Earlier coverage from socialbites.ca noted that the mass production of a 3nm process could position the iPhone 15 as one of the most powerful smartphones of 2023, leveraging efficiency gains and peak performance to broaden its lead in the premium segment.
