In the event of an emergency shutdown of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) from the power lines at the power units, a critical situation will not arise. This was told socialbites.ca by Ural Federal University Associate Professor, Candidate of Technical Sciences Oleg Tashlykov, who repeatedly visited ZNPP power units during the installation period and was well acquainted with similar units in Russian NPPs.
According to the expert, it is not possible to accumulate the electricity produced by the stations in a large energy sector. Thus, any nuclear power plant (also thermal power plant or hydroelectric power station) produces exactly as much energy as is currently consumed by consumers connected to this power system (minus losses in electrical networks).
“If the ZNPP is disconnected from the power line in the event of an accident, automatic emergency protection will be activated, which will quickly and safely de-power the power units for the reactor plant. Such emergencies in power systems are provided in safety systems not only for nuclear, but also for other power plants. “Scenarios are foreseen up to the complete shutdown of power units,” Tashlykov said.
Formerly Ukrainian company Energoatom knowledgeable On the disconnection of ZNPP from the Ukrainian power grid. However, later socialbites.ca refuted this information refers to the message from the administration of the city of Energodar where the ZNPP is located.
