The American company Google has removed several malicious extensions for the Chrome browser from the official store. By ArsTekniksome followed users.

For the first time, such add-ons were identified by experts from the information security company McAfee. Dangerous extensions have been downloaded more than 1.4 million times in total. They also recorded the victim’s visits to all sites.

The addons allegedly perform functions such as streaming Netflix series to multiple users at the same time, taking screenshots, and automatically finding coupons to save on purchases.

As a result of the study, McAfee experts found that the extensions send the site addresses to the attacker’s server along with the user’s unique browser identifier and geolocation information. To hide their true intentions, the extensions were programmed to “sleep” – for the first 15 days after installation, they performed only useful functions.

Previously on Google Chrome browser since January 2023 stop working Ad blocking extensions including AdBlock. This is because an updated version of the software interface has been released.
