Dangerous microorganisms settle on any surface, including smartphones, where they can infect their hands. Oksana Chikina, head of the epidemiological department of the Israeli Hadassah clinic branch in Skolkovo (GK Medscan), told socialbites.ca about this.
“The University of Kufa (Iraq) previously evaluated bacterial contamination on the surface of 300 mobile phones randomly received from students, staff, and campus faculty. “It was found that 86% of mobile phone surfaces are contaminated with an average number of bacteria, including the normal flora of the skin, but pathogenic flora is also isolated.”
According to him, on average, Staphylococcus aureus accounted for 20% of the microorganisms detected, pneumococci – 12%, E. coli – 9%, fecal enterococci – 9%. In addition, pathogenic Klebsiella pneumonia, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, salmonella and Grigoriev-Shigi bacteria (bacterial dysentery agent) were found on smartphone cases.
“Thus, the mobile phone becomes a potential source of transmission of infectious diseases. If the smartphone is then given to a young child to watch or play cartoons, of course, bacteria and viruses can also enter the body through the mouth,” Chikina added.
Based on this, smartphones, according to the epidemiologist, need regular hygienic cleaning. Chikina said that you can use alcohol-based antiseptic or special ultraviolet devices for disinfection.
