LG Display has unveiled a prototype 97-inch OLED EX TV whose main feature is the ability to produce surround sound through screen vibrations. Message about it seen On the ArsTechnica website.
The sound generation technology is called Movie Cinematic Sound OLED. While the company didn’t specify an equivalent volume level for traditional speakers, it said the screen is capable of delivering home theater-like surround sound.
“The 5.1-channel sound system built into the widescreen provides a cinematic level of immersion,” LG Display said.
LG is not the only company using this technology in their televisions. For example, Sony has been using a similar system called Acoustic Surface in OLED TVs since 2017. But the Japanese company does not compare the sound characteristics of its screens with full-fledged 5.1 speaker systems.
A commercial version of LG’s 97-inch Movie Cinematic Sound OLED TV is expected to hit the market before the end of 2022. There is no information about the possible price of the device yet.
