Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan took part in the recording of the Inside the Gilliverse podcast, where he talked about attempts to release games based on the show. One of them would be a big budget action game in the vein of Grand Theft Auto.
I don’t really like video games, but how can you not know Grand Theft Auto. I remember saying to the guys who approved Breaking Bad and now work at Apple, “Who owns Grand Theft Auto? Is it possible to make a game based on the series?
The plans never came to fruition, although the game still makes sense to me. We’ve made quite a few attempts at making video games, some of which have hit the market. We tried to make a VR game for the PlayStation VR headset. And we also released a mobile game that took a while.
As for Grand Theft Auto itself, the head of Take-Two Interactive said yesterday that the sixth installment in the series will set new standards not just for the game industry, but for the entire entertainment industry. If you believe the latest insiders, one of the main characters will be a Latin American woman, and the release will be sometime in two years.
