American customers continue to use Kaspersky Lab antivirus products despite their ban in the United States due to sanctions. Because access to cloud security services is blocked, users are forced to use ways to bypass the blockage to receive updates, reports “Habr” portal.
Some Americans said they had purchased licenses before the quarantine and were reluctant to switch to products from other manufacturers. One user stated that he was able to receive updates using block bypass tools. Some also admitted that they configured the app to receive updates from servers outside the United States.
Users claim that Kaspersky antivirus remains the best in the world and that they have no evidence of it being used for espionage purposes. The habit of using a proven product for many years is also an argument in their favor. They think the ban on the sale of Kaspersky Lab software in the US is overly harsh and unnecessary.
On July 16, 2024, Kaspersky Lab announced that it was exiting the US market and would provide free security software for six months as a parting gift to users in the region.
Kaspersky Lab announced on October 7, 2024 that Google was removing the company’s applications from the Google Play store. Although U.S. Department of Commerce sanctions prohibit the sale of the company’s products in the United States, they do not restrict the sale and distribution of products outside the country.
