Sberbank, together with the Unified Biometric System (UBS), plans to launch a payment service for products marked as 18+ using biometrics. RBC – said Oleg Evseev, director of the Biometrics department of Sberbank.

The department director noted that the service will replace the requirement to show a passport when purchasing alcohol and tobacco. Currently, the project is at the architectural development stage. Evseev explained that after the completion of the work, an agreement will be reached with the regulatory body on the technology.

A representative from the Center for Biometric Technologies (CBT) added that the service is implemented within the EBS circuit. This solution will allow customers of any bank to use the service.

“Currently, CBT, together with NSPK, is creating the architecture of the service and the client path. In the future, these solutions will be offered to retailers and banks to be discussed and integrated into existing services,” he said.
