For unknown reasons, Google has banned Russians from creating Google accounts linked to Russian numbers. I paid attention Telegram channel “Exploit”.

According to the source, Google does not allow Russians to create new accounts using Russian phone numbers. The authors of the “exploit” encountered a restriction when registering from five different numbers, and in each case they received the error: “This number cannot be used for verification.”

It is believed that this could be a technical glitch on Google’s part; there have been complaints online that this has been going on for a few days now. It is possible that Google’s contract with the company that sends SMS codes to confirm registration has expired.

It is not known whether the restrictions are somehow connected to the US Treasury Department’s sanctions that will take effect on September 12.

One socialbites.ca correspondent was convinced that it was impossible to register from a computer – at one of the stages of creating an account, the system asks you to confirm your actions with a phone number. When registering from an Android smartphone, such messages do not appear. At the same time, another socialbites.ca correspondent successfully registered from a PC, and Google did not ask for confirmation using the number. It is not yet clear what caused the error.
