The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation started to search for candidates to develop a domestic game console. In this respect reports RBC, with reference to the press service of the department.
An attempt to create a Russian gaming system was entrusted by President Vladimir Putin in March of this year. Currently, the Ministry of Industry and Trade is identifying potential producers, necessary resources and support measures.
The government’s press service noted that services providing operating and cloud systems for the delivery of games and programs are already available and operating successfully in Russia. As examples, VK Play from Yandex, MTS Fog Play and Plus Gaming were named.
Experts interviewed by journalists express doubts about the practical application of the Russian console. Experts pointed out the difficulties in achieving profitability of the project and emphasized that the main issue is not the hardware, but the development of the service and the adaptation of the wide game portfolio to the new platform.
It was also noted that currently in Russia there is no opportunity to create its own game console that can compete with platforms such as PlayStation or Xbox.
