“The IOC Executive Board today decided to create the Olympic eSports Games, a decision that must be approved at the upcoming session in Paris,” committee chairman Thomas Bach said.
The next IOC session, where a decision is expected to be made, will be held within the scope of the Olympic Games in Paris. The IOC is currently negotiating with the potential organizer of future Olympic esports games. The name of the event host will be announced after all necessary procedures are completed.
The IOC’s first interaction with eSports took place in 2018 with the organization of the Esports Forum in Lausanne. After that, the eSports Relations Group was created, which became a platform for interaction with all interested parties in the field of computer sports. It was later transformed into the IOC Esports Commission.
At the 141st session in Mumbai in October this year, IOC President Thomas Bach announced the organization’s intention to develop a concept for the Olympic eSports Games.
