iFixit is ending its partnership with Samsung after a two-year partnership aimed at making smartphone repairs easier. In this respect says on iFixit’s website.

iFixit CEO and co-founder Kyle Vince said that the current contract will not be renewed because, in his opinion, Samsung is not interested in repairing users’ devices.

“As we tried to build this ecosystem, we constantly encountered obstacles that made us question Samsung’s commitment to making repairs more accessible. We were unable to deliver parts to local stores at prices and quantities that made business sense. Part prices were so high that many users chose to purchase new devices rather than repair old devices,” said Vince.

Despite the official termination of the collaboration, iFixit will continue to repair Samsung devices in the same way as Apple devices. Thus, iFixit will continue to provide spare parts and repair instructions for Korean devices, but the company will not receive official documentation from Samsung.

Vince noted that Samsung may have sold batteries along with the displays, which could have resulted in unreasonably high costs for customers who only needed battery replacements. Additionally, under the terms of the contract, iFixit could not sell more than seven parts per quarter to a customer. As of June 17, these restrictions will be lifted due to termination of the contract.
