Andrey Svintsov, Deputy Chairman of the Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications Committee reported To the Ura.ru agency regarding the start of YouTube’s cooperation with the Russian authorities and its compliance with the requirements of Russian legislation.
As a result, the social network blocked three videos about evading military service in Russia. The videos were published on the channels “Dozor in Volgograd”, “Military School” (the institution is included in the list of foreign agents by the Ministry of Justice) and other independent regional media.
The reason for the blocking was the obligation of state institutions. According to Svintsov, YouTube may continue to cooperate with Russia to avoid complete blocking, given that Russian analogues of video hosting sites are now actively being created.
“It is quite possible to avoid blocking, since Russian analogues of YouTube are now actively being created. We hope video hosting continues to do this. It will work with Russia as well as local services,” Svintsov said.
He also stated that other foreign companies, such as Microsoft, are starting to meet Russia halfway, which means there is a possibility of a slow return of Western companies to the Russian market.
