Microsoft has fixed an issue that started more than two years ago and was preventing some Windows 10 computers from updating to Windows 11. reports PCMag portal.
The issue affected computers with 11th-generation Intel Core processors running Windows 10 and running Intel Smart Sound Technology drivers version 10.29.0.5152 or 10.30.0.5152. Critical errors and BSOD occurred when trying to update such computers. In response, Microsoft even performed a specific operating system compatibility check before updating to avoid “breaking” computers by these criteria.
This issue has been known to exist since November 2021. Since then, users have had to download new Intel drivers manually. However, Microsoft’s support site states that driver updates can now be obtained through Windows Update.
It is stated that the update distribution process may take up to 48 hours, so some users do not have the update yet.
