Apple has announced that customers and independent repair shops will be able to use used original parts to repair their iPhones starting later this year. In this respect reports Edition of the Washington Post (TWP).

The new policy will initially only apply to parts for iPhone 15 and newer models, including displays, batteries and camera modules. Later, this list will expand to include Face ID and Touch ID biometric sensors. The component verification process will be simplified: Service providers and customers will not be required to provide device serial numbers when ordering parts.

In an effort to prevent stolen iPhones from being dismantled for “donor” parts, Apple will expand its Activation Lock security feature.

“This feature was developed at the request of customers and law enforcement to limit iPhone theft by preventing the reactivation of a lost or stolen iPhone. If a device being repaired detects that a part installed within it has been removed from a device with Activation Lock or Lost Mode enabled, the calibration capabilities of that part will be limited,” Apple explained.
