Customers of Russian banks will not experience any significant problems due to the termination of the Samsung Pay payment service in Russia. In this respect reports TASS cited comments from the largest Russian credit institutions.
For example, Tinkoff Pay product manager Nikita Buklish said the company does not expect a “significant impact” from shutting down Samsung Pay in Russia. According to him, there are many other payment instruments available for Russian smartphone users. Buklish believes that de facto import substitution of Samsung Pay and other foreign payment services in Russia has already passed.
In turn, a VTB representative told TASS that external restrictions have long provided Russian banks with additional incentive to develop “substitute payment solutions.” The bank noted that credit institutions in Russia are therefore already ready for a decision similar to Samsung’s today’s decision.
The agency received a similar comment from Sberbank. They recalled that they launched their own payment tool for smartphones, SberPay, in 2019.
