In the published preliminary build of Android 15 Developer Preview 2, Google introduced new restrictions on the installation of applications developed for previous versions of the operating system. In this respect reports Rozetked, referring to journalist Mishaal Rahman.

As the expert discovered, the new version of the operating system does not allow installing applications with SDK version lower than 24, which corresponds to Android 7.0 Nougat. This means that applications written for Android 6.0 Marshmallow and older versions cannot be installed on devices running Android 15.

However, Rahman noted that there is a way to bypass this limitation using the ADB command: “adb install –bypass-low-target-sdk-block .apk”, where you need to enter the name of the application before the “.apk”. package to be installed. This method allows you to manually install the app you want, even if it no longer meets the new security requirements.

Google continues its policy of limiting the use of older applications to increase security. Starting in August 2023, Google Play also stopped accepting apps for publication with SDK version lower than 33 (Android 13). The company explains that such applications do not have the necessary modern security measures and can be used by attackers.
