Samsung plans to introduce a mid-budget foldable smartphone that will compete with the base iPhone 16 model. reports South Korean publication The Elec quotes sources.

Sources close to the production chain indicate that Samsung is accelerating the process of producing components for its Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 foldable devices, which are expected to start mass production in early May this year. This is a few weeks ahead of previous models and suggests that the Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 are likely to launch in July. The previous series was launched in August of the previous year.

The new affordable foldable smartphone is expected to hit the market a few months after the launch of the standard Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 models. Rumor has it that such a device could be released in September or October, so Samsung can offer potential iPhone 16 buyers a more innovative smartphone with a flexible display.

There is not much information yet about the budget version of the Z Fold, but the company is expected to make some design concessions to reduce the cost of the device. Among other things, rumor has it that the new product will not support the S Pen stylus. It is unknown how much such a device would cost. If Samsung plans to compete with the base iPhone 16, its price should not exceed $1,000, which is unlikely.
