Sber’s press service reported that the Baikal Research Center for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technologies will be opened in the Irkutsk region.

A memorandum of cooperation, including its creation, was signed by Alexander Vedyakhin, first deputy chairman of the board of directors of Sberbank, Igor Kobzev, governor of the Irkutsk region, and Mikhail Kornyakov, rector of INRTU. The parties agreed to carry out joint educational activities.

As Vedyakhin emphasized, the center will expand the use of artificial intelligence technologies in the region, while also improving the quality of services for residents.

“The main areas of research activities will be climate change, security, energy and humanitarian technologies. “This year, the center will work on a project to protect Lake Baikal, create a working service in line with the demands of local residents, and create a service for agricultural producers to receive subsidies,” he said.

Kobzev shared that the Irkutsk region has developed a strategy for digital transformation of various areas of the economy, social services and public administration. He emphasized that this strategy includes the use of advanced artificial intelligence technologies.

“I am sure that with our cooperation we will find effective mechanisms to implement new applications based on artificial intelligence in the Irkutsk region,” he said.

According to Kornyakov, the signed agreement provides for the expansion of strategic cooperation in the fields of education, scientific research and project work. He believes that joint activities will allow us to combine knowledge, experience and intellectual resources to develop new technologies and digital services that will contribute to the development of the regional economy and improve the quality of life of citizens.
