Russian President Vladimir Putin officially started the construction of the seventh power unit of the Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant (NPP). This was reported by RIA News.
According to the agency, in a video conference from Novo-Ogarevo, permission was given to pour the first cubic meters of concrete on the framework of the nuclear power plant site, on which the seventh power unit will be built.
“I allow this,” the Russian leader said when asked to give a formal order to start work.
Documents show that the general director of the Rosatom state company Alexey Likhachev and the governor of the Leningrad region Alexander Drozdenko were also present at the ceremony.
Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant is Russia’s largest operating nuclear power plant in terms of installed capacity (4337.6 MW). It is located in the city of Sosnovy Bor, on the coast of the Gulf of Finland of the Baltic Sea. The first power unit of LNPP was put into operation in 1973.
At the beginning of January, the press service of the Rosenergoatom concern Rostechnadzor gave up License for the construction of nuclear reactors of new power units in blocks 7 and 8 of the Leningrad NPP.
