Given staff shortages, Russian companies are likely to pay less attention to the gender, age and communication skills of applicants for IT-related positions. 40% of cases now deal with the training of the specialist, and 31% with the completed project portfolio. socialbites.ca learned about this from the results of a survey conducted by the Position research center and the Hexlet online programming school.
The majority (72%) are sure that the salary level in companies is determined solely by the knowledge and experience of IT specialists. Of the 28% of respondents who relate the wage level to gender and age characteristics, half are confident that the wage gap can reach 10%-30% due to parameters that are not suitable for the employer.
IT experts determined the areas where they most frequently examine communication skills and gender and age characteristics. The top 3 jobs requiring soft skills include designers (39%), marketers (30%) and product managers (29%). Applicants for data scientist (8%), developer (10%), data analyst (12%) and tester (13%) positions less frequently require gender, age and communication skills.
Often soft skills are in demand among entry-level (junior) professionals; this answer was chosen by 38% of participants. While mid-level specialists came in second place with 24%, interns have less need for soft skills than IT specialists.
