Google DeepMind has announced a new artificial intelligence called SIMA, designed to play video games like human players. In this respect reports 3DNews.
SIMA stands for “Scalable, Learning, Multi-World Agent.” The project is in active research and may explore non-linear open-world video games in the future. During the development of SIMA, DeepMind collaborated with famous game developers such as Hello Games and Embracer to integrate artificial intelligence into popular games such as No Man’s Sky and Valheim. What sets SIMA apart from others is its ability to learn without needing to access APIs or game source code.
Artificial intelligence combines advanced natural language processing and visual perception technologies to enable researchers to perform tasks in 3D game worlds under their command. Tim Harley, one of the chief researchers of Google DeepMind, emphasizes that the purpose of SIMA is not to win the game, but to adapt to the gameplay by following the instructions given.
To test and train SIMA, the DeepMind team created a unique gaming environment based on the Unity engine, in which the AI learns to manipulate objects and create sculptures by mimicking human movements in the game. SIMA has mastered nearly 600 basic gaming skills so far and continues to evolve to handle more complex tasks.
The developers are confident that with the development of artificial intelligence, SIMA can become a valuable participant who can influence the outcome of the game and even lead the team to victory.
