Apple recently began distributing internal versions of iOS 18 to contractors building new iPhones and iPads. The iOS version provided by Apple at this stage is called VendorUI and access to this version is strictly controlled. In this respect reports MacRumor’s publication.
Released every year, VendorUI is a variant of iOS and iPadOS provided to factories to test product quality. Apple is keeping a close eye on where that version is distributed, as the company has a preview version of the iOS user interface that Apple won’t be able to release publicly until WWDC. VendorUI may include descriptions of new features, changes to corporate identity and settings. Unlike iOS versions used by software developers, VendorUI is often missing certain apps. VendorUI only has the services needed to test devices.
Every year, the development of new iOS and iPadOS goes through several mandatory stages. The LLDiags version is designed for use in low-level diagnostics and has no user interface. Non-UI version – designed for hardware engineers and calibration machines. There is still no standard user interface. VendorUI – designed for testing product quality in factories and may contain user interface elements. InternalUI is intended for Apple software engineers and generally includes a preview version of the iOS user interface with unreleased and unannounced features. Finally, the release version is a complete version of iOS with all the changes.
MacRumors writes that rumor has it that iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 will have a special focus on artificial intelligence. Operating systems are expected to be announced in June 2024 as part of the WWDC developer conference.
