A record increase in DDoS attacks on online stores was recorded in Russia on March 8, 2024. The number of incidents was three times higher than on the same day in 2023. socialbites.ca was informed about this by the press service of the StormWall company.
Most of the attacks on online stores on March 8 were carried out by politically motivated hacktivists. Attackers tried to disrupt the work of businesses in order to incur huge losses due to holiday interruptions. Additionally, a significant portion of the attacks were initiated by rival businessmen.
The majority of DDoS attacks (63%) were against flower sellers. Online cosmetics stores were also severely affected; They accounted for 18% of the total number of cases. The top 3 were completed by electronic stores with a share of 12%. Below are stores selling clothes and shoes, which account for 6% of all recorded attacks.
Although the number of DDoS attacks has increased, their strength has proven to be relatively small. At its peak, StormWall experts recorded events with only 9 Gbit/s capacity. However, even such attacks were enough to bring down many businesses that did not have professional protection against cyber attacks.
