Louis Venus, an aspiring engineer from San Francisco (USA), has created an aerial drone with artificial intelligence that can recognize a person by face in a few hours and follow him. Venus’s detailed report on the development of the device in the X (Twitter) perceived Live Science broadcast.
The development of Venus was helped by fellow programmer Robert Lukoshko. For 115 dollars (about 10.5 thousand rubles at the exchange rate of March 10, 2024), they bought an ordinary drone with a camera and reprogrammed it to chase a person. To do this, enthusiasts “taught” the device to recognize people face to face using artificial intelligence technology. When it detects a person designated by the program, the drone accelerates sharply and heads towards the ram, flying directly towards it.
Venus and Lukoshko said that they created this device for entertainment purposes only. The resolution of the built-in camera was sufficient for the drone to detect the right person from a distance of approximately 10 meters in heavy pedestrian traffic.
“I thought the idea of creating a drone that could play tag with a human was funny,” Venus wrote.
The developer also admitted that he was dismayed at how easily he was able to implement the idea. According to Venus, anyone can buy 100 cheap UAVs, put small explosives on them and plant them on attackers.
