Ahead of the launch of one of the first third-party iOS app stores in the European Union, MacPaw announced beta testing of its Setapp service. The store is expected to officially open in April and will offer users subscriptions to a range of exclusive apps. reports Border.

Setapp is currently only available for macOS, giving subscribers access to an extensive library of over 230 apps for $10 per month. Available apps include music editor n-Track Studio, project visualization tool MindNode, and many more.

The Setapp store for iOS will feature apps for business, design, utilities and productivity tools. Subscription prices have not yet been determined, but according to MacPaw product marketing manager Yaroslav Stepanenko, they will be in line with generally accepted subscription models. Users interested in the new store can sign up for the waiting list via the Setapp website.

Apple’s policy changes, driven by the EU’s new Digital Markets Act (DMA), have allowed third-party app stores to launch on iOS, bypassing the App Store. However, the future of such stores remains uncertain, as many developers choose not to list their products on alternative platforms. The new rules will impose a fee of 50 euro cents per app installation after reaching a threshold of 1 million downloads per year, which could have a negative impact on popular free apps.
