Lenovo, along with tech repair experts iFixit, have unveiled a range of laptops that are relatively easy to repair at home at the MWC 2024 tech show in Barcelona. In this respect reports The Verge’s edition.
The lineup includes three updated ThinkPad T series laptops: ThinkPad T14 Gen 5, ThinkPad T14s Gen 5, and ThinkPad T16 Gen 3). Each device was given Intel Core Ultra processors. The only exception was the T14 Gen 5 model, where you can optionally choose AMD Ryzen 8040.
T Series keyboards now include the same tactile cues on the Fn, Insert, Enter and Volume keys found on the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 12 and ThinkPad X1 2-in-1 Gen 9 laptops, making typing easier. Lenovo also broke its long-standing tradition of placing the Fn key on the farthest edge and replaced it with the Ctrl key that most laptop and keyboard manufacturers place.
Unlike many other laptops, new Lenovo devices have an expanded set of removable modules. In particular, the device can change RAM strips and SSD user data storage. Each removable component is accompanied by a QR code, after scanning which the user will be given detailed replacement instructions.
All new Intel-configured ThinkPads will be available starting April 2024 and start at $1,199 (ThinkPad T14 Gen 5 AMD configuration will be available in May 2024, starting at $949).
