Russian researchers have developed an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) with vertical take-off and landing technology, combining the features of a helicopter and jet aircraft, the press service of the National Technical Initiative (NTI) said. This was reported by RIA News.

NTI emphasized that the UAV was named “Varioplan”. The device, with increased speed and flight range, is designed to transport people and cargo, including in urban areas.

Project manager Andrey Smyshlyaev emphasized that the UAV resembles a quadcopter in takeoff configuration and a cruise missile in cruise mode.

Before that, Deputy General Director of Aeroscript Andrey Yablokov statedIt was stated that Russian research center (SRC) Aeroscript is testing a service designed to prevent collisions between unmanned aerial vehicles and aircraft in the sky.

He said the digital platform collects information about drone traffic and then data sharing occurs, allowing manned airlines to receive data about which drones are flying in a particular area.
