The file size in a phishing email attachment typically varies between 32 KB and 2 MB. The most common 512 KB range is 1 MB and accounts for more than 36%.

“Last year’s trend in phishing emails was high-quality, well-thought-out bait letters, something that a few years ago could only be afforded by certain professional participants or sophisticated groups in the world of cybercrime. For example, pro-state attacks as part of targeted attacks,” Kargalev said.

Most often, malicious attachments contain programs intended to steal logins and passwords, among other data, from infected devices, hackers said.
