The new touch button on the iPhone 16 will mimic the shutter button found on professional cameras. In this respect reports The MacRumors publication cites Chinese insider Instant Digital.
Instant Digital wrote on Weibo that the main function of the new button will be to enable photo or video capture. It will simulate a two-stage pressing due to vibration feedback. A light press allows the user to adjust the focus, while a hard press activates the shutter.
“This is essentially the same function as most DSLR and mirrorless cameras; the shutter button has two stages: pressing halfway down locks focus or exposure, and pressing all the way down takes the photo,” MacRumors writes.
Instant Digital added that the addition of the shutter button would bring the iPhone closer to a camera phone format. The latter is currently experiencing a renaissance in the Android device market.
The touch button is expected to appear on all models of the iPhone 16 series. The new Apple smartphones are expected to be released in the fall of 2024.
