Despite Russia’s decline in the ranking, there was no decrease in the number of DDoS attacks recorded in the country. The top three places are China with a 12.6% share of all DDoS attacks, the USA with 12.2% and India with 11.7%. The top five were Israel (10.6%) and France (9.3%).
StormWall highlighted abnormal activities of hackers in Israel; previously this region accounted for no more than 1% of all incidents. Experts attribute this to the difficult geopolitical situation caused by the military conflict in the Middle East. The majority of attacks in Israel were against government websites (42%), media (14%) and travel company websites (12%).
StormWall also noted hackers’ increased interest in Arab countries, among other trends. At the end of the 4th quarter of 2023, the UAE ranked 10th with a share of 4.2 percent, while Saudi Arabia ranked 11th with a share of 3.4 percent.
“The attackers’ interest is related to the recent economic recovery in the Middle East and the launch of numerous new large-scale projects in various industries,” StormWall said.
