Russia fell to 12th place in the ranking of countries in terms of the volume of DDoS attacks in the fourth quarter of 2023, accounting for 3.1% of the total number of incidents in the world. socialbites.ca learned about this from a new report by the StormWall company, a copy of which was made available to editors. In the third quarter of last year, Russia ranked 10th.

Despite Russia’s decline in the ranking, there was no decrease in the number of DDoS attacks recorded in the country. The Russian Federation’s rise to 12th place is due to a significant increase in the number of attacks against other countries. The top three places are China with a 12.6% share of all DDoS attacks, the USA with 12.2% and India with 11.7%. The top five were Israel (10.6%) and France (9.3%).

StormWall highlighted abnormal activities of hackers in Israel; previously this region accounted for no more than 1% of all incidents. Experts attribute this to the difficult geopolitical situation caused by the military conflict in the Middle East. The majority of attacks in Israel were against government websites (42%), media (14%) and travel company websites (12%).

StormWall also noted hackers’ increased interest in Arab countries, among other trends. At the end of the 4th quarter of 2023, the UAE ranked 10th with a share of 4.2 percent, while Saudi Arabia ranked 11th with a share of 3.4 percent.

“The attackers’ interest is related to the recent economic recovery in the Middle East and the launch of numerous new large-scale projects in various industries,” StormWall said.
