US technology giant Google has signed the largest deal to date to supply renewable electricity from offshore wind projects off the coast of the Netherlands. This has been officially reported Blog Google.

We are talking about the purchase of 478 megawatts (MW) of electricity from the consortiums Crosswind and Ecowende, a joint venture of the energy company Shell and Eneco. Electricity for Google will be produced by two new offshore wind farms, Hollandse Kust Noord (HKN) Site V and Hollandse Kust West (HKW) Site VI. HKN entered service in 2023, and HKW is planned to become operational in 2026. The energy will be used to meet the needs of two Google data centers in the Netherlands.

Google also announced smaller renewable energy deals in Italy, Poland and Belgium, but did not disclose the financial details of the deals reached.

The record deal was part of Google’s plan to power its data centers entirely with carbon-free energy by 2030.
