Apple has added the mid-2012 13-inch MacBook Pro to its list of obsolete products. In this respect reports MacRumor’s publication.
The MacBook Pro, released in June 2012, was the last Mac with a built-in CD/DVD drive. It was sold until October 2016 and was then replaced by another model. Apple continues to sell external SuperDrives for customers who need a CD/DVD drive, but use with modern MacBooks requires a USB-C adapter.
Apple considers a device that was discontinued more than seven years ago to be “technologically obsolete.” Despite the new status, the MacBook in question is “eligible” for the long-term free battery replacement offer, which is limited to 10 years from the date of sale.
On the software side, Apple ended support for the mid-2012 13-inch MacBook Pro model in 2020. The most current version of macOS for this model is Big Sur.
