Russians warned about increasing number of scams on Telegram

The number of fraud attacks against Russians related to Telegram Premium increased 2.3 times in 2023 compared to 2022. In this respect reports The Izvestia publication cites data from information security experts.

According to Evgeniy Voloshin, director of Bi.Zone’s security analysis and anti-fraud department, attackers use social engineering techniques to lure people to fake sites that mimic the Telegram interface and steal victims’ accounts there. Often people are encouraged to switch to malicious resources through notifications about gaining a Telegram Premium subscription, which must be received quickly.

Experts believe that the increase in such attacks occurred due to the fact that Telegram Premium subscription has become a popular gift in Russia. Additionally, a legitimate subscription sweepstakes tool emerged on messenger, which scammers also took advantage of.
