The way phone scammers defraud potential victims has changed over the past few months. Deputy Governor of the Central Bank (CB) German Zubarev talked about this in the newspaper “News”.
According to Zubarev, attackers now first study their victim – his profile on social networks, friends and workspace. Some information is taken from sites where a person leaves information about himself. The attackers then develop an individual communication scheme with the victim.
“A special deception scenario is being developed using modern technologies. Thus, a scheme involving the creation of fake Telegram accounts of managers is widely spreading: people write on behalf of their bosses to gain trust,” Zubarev shared.
He added that fraudsters use modern technologies such as artificial intelligence to create a voice message purporting to be from a relative of the victim or someone close to him/her.
