Short vertical videos The full relaunch of TikTok’s online service in Russia is not yet being discussed. In this respect reports TASS cited the words of the head of the Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation, Maksut Shadayev.
Answering a TASS journalist’s question about the possibility of resuming full-fledged activity of the social network in Russia, Shadayev said: “No, not yet.”
TikTok has been operating on a limited basis in Russia since March 6, 2022. The social network banned Russian users from uploading new video clips and live broadcasts due to the law on fake news about the Russian Armed Forces. Additionally, videos from other countries have since become unavailable for users to watch.
TikTok was launched in 2016 by ByteDance, a China-based company. It is an analogue of the Chinese social network Douyin, which is owned by the same company. More than 1 billion people worldwide use TikTok every month. Besides Russia, TikTok is blocked or has limited functionality in many countries such as India, Iran, Kyrgyzstan and more.
