DJ Novotny, Apple’s VP of Hardware Engineering, has decided to leave the IT company and join Rivian Automotive. In this respect reports MacRumor’s publication.
Novotny worked at Apple for 25 years and was instrumental in the development of the iPod and iPhone. He also helped develop the iPad and bring the Apple Watch to market, according to sources.
Novotny also participated in Project Titan to develop an autonomous electric vehicle. Before leaving, he served as head of the division responsible for the development of future home devices, paying special attention to robotics and artificial intelligence.
“They say Apple is exploring the possibility of developing HomePod, a speaker combined with an iPad, on a self-driving robot platform. It was assumed that the device would navigate independently of the user’s home or office, MacRumors reported.
Novotny will be senior vice president of automotive programs at Rivian, which makes electric SUVs and pickup trucks.
Novotny notified his colleagues of his resignation on Friday, January 19, 2024.
