Technology company Robotiz3d, together with scientists from the University of Liverpool, has designed and created a multifunctional robot for road repair. In this respect reports Interesting Engineering publication.
The robot is called Autonomous Road Repair System (ARRES). It is a tracked, self-propelled platform with a roller at the front and a futuristic hull design. ARRES is equipped with various mechanisms for feeding and compacting the asphalt, as well as machine vision that detects potholes in the asphalt.
The patches left by the machine are waterproof and have increased wear resistance. When performing such work, human participation is not required.
The use of the new product promises significant savings in time and money in road repairs and also guarantees minimal interference with the work of other road users. Field trials of ARRES will begin shortly in the Hertfordshire town.
