Experts from the British Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) believe that the development of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies is almost guaranteed to increase the number and effectiveness of hacker attacks worldwide in the next two years. This situation is stated in the report Web site departments.
GCHQ is the UK’s intelligence agency responsible for information security and electronic intelligence.
GCHQ predicts that AI-based ransomware will become the biggest cybersecurity threat in 2024-2025. Neural networks will make it easier for new cybercriminals to enter the criminal business.
“The use of AI in cyber attacks is evolutionary rather than revolutionary, meaning it strengthens existing threats such as ransomware but does not change the risk landscape in the near future,” GCHQ chief executive Lindy Cameron said.
According to the assessment, artificial intelligence will be most actively used for hacking using social engineering methods; that is, it will be used to create letters and fake documents to mislead people into providing hackers with the necessary information themselves.
