Meta Corporation (recognized as extremist and banned in Russia) has released a new beta version of its WhatsApp application, which now includes the ability to correspond with users of other instant messengers. In this respect reports WABetaInfo (WBI) publication.
The new feature is called Third Party Chats (from “third party chats” in English). It allows users to chat with people on other messengers directly from the WhatsApp app.
Telegram and Discors support was already added to the iOS client when beta version 24.2.10.72 was released. Then it will be possible to establish a dialogue on WhatsApp with users from Viber, iMessage, Sigma and many more.
According to WBI, Meta is adding cross-platform functionality to WhatsApp so that the service complies with a new legal norm in the European Union known as the Digital Markets Act (DMA). This requires, among other things, operators of major Internet communication platforms to create barrier-free communication conditions for users. One of these conditions is cross-platform in messengers.
It is unknown when third-party chat support will appear in the release version of WhatsApp. However, WBI expects this to happen before the end of 2024.
