Google to pay almost $1.7 billion in lawsuit over rights to artificial intelligence chips

American technology giant Google reached an agreement in the patent infringement lawsuit filed regarding the chips used by the company in artificial intelligence (AI) equipment. This was reported by Agency Reuters.

The plaintiff was Singular Computing, which sought $1.67 billion in damages for its alleged misuse of Google’s data processing innovations. Singular, founded by Massachusetts computer scientist Joseph Bates, previously said it was incorporating Google’s technology into processors that support AI functions in Google Search, Gmail, Google Translate and other services.

In the 2019 lawsuit, it was stated that Bates shared his inventions with the company between 2010 and 2014. The lawsuit also alleged that Google’s tensor processors copied Bates’ technology and infringed two patents. Google denied the accusations, saying it developed the technologies in question independently.

Details of the agreement have not yet been disclosed. Representatives for Google and Singular confirmed the deal to reporters but did not provide additional information.
