YouTube has launched a second wave of service slowdowns for users who have not disabled ad blockers in their browsers. In this respect reports 9To5Google post citing complaints from people on the Reddit forum.
The first wave of YouTube slowdown occurred at the end of 2023. It looks like the new phase of the service’s ad revenue fight has affected a lot more people, at least in the United States.
A 9To5Google reporter was convinced that the site and player were running very slowly with the ad blocker turned on. The video takes a particularly long time to buffer, the preview doesn’t work at all, and the page needs to be reloaded to switch to full screen mode.
“The YouTube team added a script to the service code that artificially increases the time between sessions connecting the customer’s device to the video hosting servers. This creates an effect similar to what a user would observe if their internet was slow,” writes the author of 9To5Google.
When we encounter a problem, there are two ways to solve it. First, you can connect to a paid YouTube Premium subscription. Secondly, YouTube needs to be whitelisted in your browser’s ad blocker settings.
