Using older iPhone models and other Apple devices in Russia is becoming less and less profitable for users. Elena Bogatyreva, founder of the DamProdam equipment exchange service, told socialbites.ca.
According to the expert, the main problem of previous generation iPhones remains the high cost of repairs. It increases every year for both new and old devices from the American manufacturer. This is because Apple is gradually ending its service program in Russia. Spare parts become more expensive and take longer to arrive at service centers. This happens both in authorized organizations and in third-party workshops.
The most vulnerable part of the iPhone remains its battery. In some cases, it can lose up to 20% of its capacity within a year and a half. Replacing this element is not cheap.
In addition, the latest iPhone model can be found in the Russian market at half the price of Turkey and almost 15 percent cheaper than in Germany.
Elena Bogatyreva noted that Russians are not abandoning Apple products in 2023, despite the lack of access to some important functions of the company’s technology, such as the inability to make payments in the App Store application store and the inability to pay with a smartphone using Apple Pay. About 67% of iPhone users decided not to switch to smartphones from other brands; this was the highest rate among competitors.
Brand loyalty stems from the reliability of its products and continued support of Apple’s devices worldwide. In addition, the Apple ecosystem continues to operate fully in Russia.
