Valve will limit Steam on various computers starting January 1, 2024. In this respect reports Habr broadcast.
Steam will no longer support computers running Windows 7 and 8. After this date, the Steam client will continue to work on computers with older versions of the operating system, but will no longer receive all updates, including security patches. Additionally, Steam support will no longer provide technical information to users of these computers.
Valve announced that older versions of Windows will no longer be supported due to the abundance of modules in the client in the Google Chrome browser, which in turn is no longer compatible with the listed operating system versions. To avoid problems, Valve recommended upgrading your computer to Windows 10 or 11.
According to Steam’s internal analytics, Windows 7 and 8 users make up about 1% of the service’s total audience. Considering that Steam’s monthly audience is 132 million people, it is stated that more than one million people will lose support for the service.
