Experts from Dom.ru, one of Russia’s largest Internet providers, studied the consumer habits of Russian users in 2023, comparing the active audience in applications and services of their networks. The analysis shows a change in preferences in the areas of banking services and online trading platforms, the press service of the digital service provider told socialbites.ca.
According to the data presented, the most popular banks among the company’s subscribers were Sberbank, Tinkoff Bank, VTB and Alfa Bank. In terms of growth rates last year, Tinkoff Bank took the lead, which managed to attract the interest of its customers in the topic of investments – in 2023, the number of users of the Tinkoff Investments application increased from 5% to 32% per year.
Among instant messaging applications, the most significant growth was achieved by Telegram, whose audience increased by 14%. However, WhatsApp remained the market leader with 88% of total traffic on the provider’s network. Viber is in second place, while Telegram is in the top three.
There were no significant changes in the social media segment either. The lion’s share of users (80%) continues to use the VK platform. In addition, a significant part of the Internet audience (41%) communicates through Odnoklassniki.
In the online retail market in 2023, the number of users of the SberMegaMarket market increased from 18% to 27%, almost equal to the figure of AliExpress Russia (28%). However, the leaders did not change compared to the previous year; they remained Ozone and Wildberries. Yandex Market took the last place, accounting for 18% of the traffic.
Samokat ranked second among food delivery services in 2023, replacing Sbermarket. Yandex.Food still ranks first. “Delivery Club” and “Vkusville” completed the top 5.
The top five music hosting services in 2023 remained the same as in 2022: VK Music, Yandex.Music, Audio and Soundcloud. The top two services accounted for more than 80% of traffic. Experts note that the majority of Russians use music services as part of ecosystem subscriptions, that is, they purchase access to online audio libraries along with other services of selected platforms.
According to the provider’s experts, the company expects a continuous growth in the number of Internet users in all key consumer areas in 2024.
