Close to 40% of large Russian enterprises continue to use foreign software, and most will not be able to switch to completely domestic solutions until 2025. Dmitry Khomutov, director of the IT company Ideco, told socialbites.ca.
According to him, two years after the adoption of Presidential Decree No. 250 “On additional measures to ensure information security of the Russian Federation”, which obliges all Russian companies to switch to domestic software from the CII sector by January 1, 2025, many businesses are considering Russian analogues of foreign software testing and trying to distribute it. However, the expert states that businesses will not be able to completely replace foreign software until 2025. In his opinion, the only solution for many today is to continue using foreign programs without support, while also testing Russian analogues.
“The share of companies that have managed to switch to domestic developments currently does not exceed 30%, and these are predominantly state-owned companies (86%). “The share of startups and private businesses in import substitution statistics remains at a minimum level (24%),” he said.
According to Khomutov, the latter’s refusal to use software from unfriendly countries can be compared to the double-head effect: such customers practically continue to use foreign solutions when purchasing Russian products. Accordingly, for such customers, the transfer of all organizational processes to other equipment is delayed.
“This leads to a well-founded conclusion: by 2025, more than 60% of companies will not be able to completely replace imported software, while the transition of the rest will take until 2030,” the expert said.
