Russian operators are increasing the traffic capacity needed to quickly load content from Google. The publication reports that RBC quotes several market participants.
Ivan Shevelev, head of Rostelecom’s Internet infrastructure development and monetization department, told the publication that operators are expanding the company’s existing connections with Google networks “as the need grows.”
According to a representative of Transtelecom, Google and Moscow and St. They have had direct connections in St. Petersburg for many years and continue to “actively expand them in 2023.”
The material also quotes the words of Konstantin Kolesov, head of strategic development of data transmission at VimpelCom, who stated that Google Global Cache servers will sooner or later cease to exist. This will happen due to natural wear and tear or lack of capacity, so, in his opinion, first the quality of YouTube in the regions will “float”, then the traffic will increase in Moscow and St. Petersburg. It will begin to shift to St. Petersburg and increasingly load the Backbone networks.
Shevelev explained to the publication that it was possible to upgrade connections only in Moscow after Google stopped the supply of equipment to the Russian Federation to upgrade Global Cache servers and install new ones, and this solution was used before.
