About a third (30%) of Russian lawyers fear the active use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the field of law enforcement. They believe that artificial intelligence reduces experts’ ability to think critically and also makes them dependent. Kirill Kondratenko, IT specialist and deputy general director of the technology company PravoTech, told socialbites.ca, referring to the survey results.
The other 20% think that the increased likelihood of errors when using artificial intelligence is a threat. The same number of people (20%) believe that artificial intelligence poses an additional threat to personal data security and privacy. The remaining experts generally evaluated the possibilities of using artificial intelligence in practice positively.
“Despite concerns that AI could become a threat to the legal profession, there is no doubt that AI will not completely replace lawyers. This is because jurisprudence requires a comprehensive solution of problems: for example, the choice of judicial practice is only part of the judicial case study, the main task is to form a reasoned position and defend it in court,” Kirill Kondratenko commented on the survey results.
At the same time, according to him, it is possible to shift the execution of a group of routine tasks in lawyers’ practices to artificial intelligence. For example, AI can significantly speed up the process of preparing standard documents and help process typical claims or lawsuits.
Kondratenko also noted that he does not expect AI to quickly penetrate the field of law enforcement. The fact is that legal activity remains one of the most conservative activities.
