Data miners analyzed the code of an early version of iOS 18 and found a reference to four 2024 iPhones, each running on the same processor. In this respect reports MacRumor’s publication.
The operating system, codenamed Crystal, contains references to four unreleased iPhone models, corresponding to the available information about the iPhone 16 series. Mentioned models: D47 – iPhone 16, D48 – iPhone 16 Plus, D93 – iPhone 16 Pro, D94 – iPhone 16 Professional Max.
The operating system code also reveals that the entire iPhone 16 series will use the new t8140 Tahiti system-on-chip. It will eventually most likely be called A18. The A18 chip is mentioned in all versions of the iPhone 16, including the Base and Plus models, which is not typical for Apple. Typically younger devices in the series receive processors from the previous generation.
iOS 18 also mentions Broadcom’s Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules. So it seems that the American IT giant will not have time to complete the development of its own Wi-Fi chip with the launch of the iPhone 16.
Data miners did not find information about the new functions of the mobile operating system. MacRumors suggests that iOS 18 is likely in the very early stages of development.
